Commonly asked questions:

.) Will my insurance cover the cost? My services are generally paid for by health insurance plans. Because different plans vary, it is best to call your company and inquire about your specific benefits for outpatient mental health treatment and if a physician’s referral is needed. I am a participating provider in Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Harvard Pilgrim, Aetna, TriCare, Private Healthcare Systems, GHI, ValueOptions and many other plans. Private plans will direct reimbursement to you, so sessions need to be paid for at the time. When you call your insurance company, please make note of your deductible, as well as co-payments. Nantucket Family Counseling's fee is ninety dollars per fifty minute session.

.) How many sessions will I need? This will depend on your particular issues and the progress you are able to make. Some people commit to come weekly at first; others can only make it every two or three weeks. Because my approach is direct and oriented to rapid results, my treatment time is usually brief and effective.

.) How long are the sessions? Our meetings are scheduled to last fifty minutes. I make every effort to stay on schedule and be ready for our appointment on time.

.) How do I make an appointment? Feel free to call me directly at (508) 680-6974. If I am not able to answer, I do have an answering machine and check it frequently. Please leave a message and I will get back to you shortly. You may call me on evenings and weekends; often this is the best time to reach me. Because therapy requires concentration and accuracy on my part, I usually work during the daytime only.

.) Are our sessions confidential? Absolutely. Under no circumstances will I disclose any information regarding you to anyone, without your expressed consent. For your protection, I do not make it a policy to communicate with agencies, places of employment, schools or attorneys.

.) Do I need a separate referral if you see other family members? Not at all. Often in treatment, other family members may choose to come in and may certainly do so under your original referral.

.) Telephone Consultation. Many of my former patients have expressed concern that I have left the New York area and that they will not be able to find a therapist with the same treatment techniques or experience. I am pleased to announce a phone consultation service to assist in continuing our relationship. Payment must be received by the office before our scheduled appointment. Checks or money orders will be accepted. An itemized bill will be made available to you, if needed. Please, keep in mind that I would now be considered an "out of network" provider to most local insurance providers. Please, call or email the office for further information.
